The Color Purple Charms Dallas

THE COLOR PURPLE is the 2016 Tony Award® winner for Best Musical Revival! Hailed as “a direct hit to the heart” (The Hollywood Reporter), this joyous American classic has conquered Broadway in an all-new "ravishingly reconceived production that is a glory to behold” (The New York Times).
With a soul-raising, Grammy®-winning score of jazz, gospel, ragtime and blues, THE COLOR PURPLE gives an exhilarating new spirit to this Pulitzer Prize-winning story.
Don’t miss this stunning re-imagining of an epic story about a young woman’s journey to love and triumph in the American South. Experience the exhilarating power of this Tony-winning triumph that New York Magazine calls “one of the greatest revivals ever.”
Emotional and compelling, THE COLOR PURPLE explores many human feelings and conditions.  If you have not seen it, I will not disclose the story to you; suffice it to say it takes courage and devotion for the actors to portray such deep and divisive issues.
I loved it for its honesty and compassion.
Go see THE COLOR PURPLE! You only have one week, and it is worth the time.  I was particularly enthralled with the rainbow colors in the Winspear chandelier.  It's absolutely divine.

“Staging the Amazing” is what the AT&T Performing Arts Center has done for 10 years in the Dallas Arts District, on a beautiful campus which includes the Winspear Opera House, Wyly Theatre, Strauss Square and Sammons Park.

Audiences are brought to their feet every day by the newest shows from Broadway, the best dance from all over the world brought here by TITAS/Dance Unbound, the coolest new work by Dallas-based groups through the Elevator Project, cutting-edge speakers from the #hearhere series, as well as concerts and free community events.

The Center’s five resident companies are among the city’s leading arts institutions: Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, The Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center and Texas Ballet Theater.

Thousands of students explore and more deeply experience the arts through the Center’s education program, Open Stages. Working with local service agencies, the Center provides free tickets to underserved individuals and families through Community Partners.

A nonprofit arts foundation, the Center’s mission is to provide a public gathering place that strengthens community and fosters creativity through the presentation of performing arts and arts education programs.
